science of the poodle, part I - 2024

The love for a dog is unconditional. Leyla, a young poodle, is at the heart of this project, surrounded by love and care from her owner. This also invites reflection: is the modern dog still purely a dog? Why do we choose to have a dog, and how does our human perspective shape their role?
By attributing human traits and emotions to dogs (anthropomorphism), they take on an increasingly human-like character. But what does this mean for the dog itself? To what extent do they balance between being an animal and a human companion? And how do we perceive dogs in a time when they are often seen as an extension of ourselves—or even as objects?
This series explores these questions with Leyla, a poodle, as an example. Originally bred for hunting, her elegant and adorable appearance has made her one of the most beloved dog breeds of today. This project encourages reflection: how does the dog relate to its role as a pet, as an extension of human identity, and as an animal in its own right?
